Homemade is so often the best and the closest many of us will get to it on our travels is by wolfing down dishes on the streets of Bangkok, Mumbai, Dar es Salaam, Bogotá etc. Many create meals based on old family recipes and most are great value for travellers on a budget.
Your tip can be from anywhere in the world but to get on the shortlist it would be best if the street food was anchored in the local area rather than, say, eating paella or tacos at a modern street food market in London or Berlin.
The best tips will appear on the Guardian Travel website and may also appear in print in Guardian Travel. The winner, chosen by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet, will receive a £200 hotel voucher from UK.hotels.com, allowing you to stay in more than 260,000 places worldwide.
