Readers’ travel photograph competition: July – colour Last month you dazzled us with brilliant scenes from around the world. Click through the gallery to find out who our judge Natalie Mayer selected as this month's winner Tweet Alessandra Bossio: This shot was taken in in the garden of my casa particular, in the town of Trinidad, Cuba. This lizard seemed to be interested in the movements of my hands as I served coffee and set up breakfast. Photograph: Alessandra Bossio Jamie Furlong: At night, after all the other shops close, the Law Garden night market in Ahmedabad, India, become awash with colour as traders open their stalls of clothes, bed spreads and wall hangings. Many of these items are handmade, some are antiques but all burst with colour. Here two vendors chat in between haggling. This was taken without flash using available light only, at ISO 2500. Photograph: Jamie Furlong Wendy Anstead: It was on a beautifully sunny day at London's Camden Market that I spotted this van. To me, it seemed symbolic of the market itself; something vintage yet also very modern. Photograph: Wendy Anstead Eva Cmorejova: This photo of a waiting family was taken in Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India. It's interesting how the colours of the statues matches those of the family's clothing. Photograph: Eva Slnieckova Chris Chilton: The many coloured lights of the Sydney skyline shimmering and reflecting on to the waters of Sydney harbour. It made for spectacular viewing and the colours were enhanced because the water was so smooth that night. Photograph: Chris Chilton Bert Tolhurst: In the ancient Vietnamese town of Hoi An everywhere I looked I saw beautiful, brightly coloured lanterns hanging from doorways, in windows and off balconies. One afternoon I happened upon a small workshop tucked away in an old merchant house where the lanterns were being made. There were hundreds strung up inside, adorning the shopfront in an array of colours, shapes and sizes. It was a captivating display. Photograph: Bert Tolhurst Gareth Codd: This was captured mid-way on a long drive through the highlands of eastern Madagascar. The market was awash with colour, with an array of fruits, clothing, sheets and numerous other items to be seen in all directions. This is just one example of the many vibrant and colourful scenes I came across during my visit to this intriguing country. Photograph: Gareth Codd Tara Moayed: Valparaíso in Chile is one of the most colourful cities I have ever visited. Its walls are adorned with street art and murals. Looking at the city from above, it resembles a concrete rainbow next to the Pacific coast. While walking around I actually noticed this wall because of its lack of colour. Looking back now, it's one of my favourite photos of the trip because it captures both the city's artistic and political sides so well. Photograph: Tara Moayed Dominic Burdon, runner-up: The picture was taken at Shey Palace in Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas, an amazing monastery-rich environment. Much of the land was a dull brown hue, but I will always remember the region as being colourful due to the thousands of prayer flags that flapped wildly in the winter winds on countless hilltops and mountain peaks. Natalie Mayer, judge: This is sort of hopeful yet desperate all at the same time. I like the mystery of the image, the unexplained scene behind. Why the rubble? What has happened? It looks pretty bad, yet someone is still putting the prayer flags up. Sort of colourful signs of life amongst sadness … interesting.Photograph: Dominic Burdon Photograph: Action images Grant Terzakis, winner: At a campout with friends we ventured to the beaches of Chicago, on Lake Michigan. I noticed the beauty of the skies at sunset and knew I had to get a group photo. Little did I know that my friend was planning a daring leap over the group. Natalie Mayer, judge: This is a striking image. I'd love to have a peek "with the lights on" to see what was actually going on. The colours are strong, the photographer has chosen a good exposure for really enhancing the sky and playing with the silhouettes, and at the same time just about managed to freeze the action. All in all, well accomplished! Photograph: Grant Terzakis
