Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowd at Rio Carnival
I took this photo of the crowd in our stand at Carnival in Rio this year. Some people are wearing parts of costumes that parade participants had thrown up into the stand. It was hot and steamy and lots of fun Photograph: Kristin Smyth
Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowds: Djeema El Fna, Marrakech
Shot at dusk from a cafe balcony on Djemaa el Fna square in the centre of Marrakech. During the day it is a dull and barren paved area but as soon as the sun goes down it comes to life with jugglers, snake charmers, water sellers and a magnificent array of food stalls. I love the way that this couple are standing still among the swirling chaos looking rather confused Photograph: Sarah Franklin
Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowds: taxis in Sendai, Japan
Taken in Sendai, Japan on a cold evening in March outside the JR train station. Crowds of taxis waiting for the even bigger crowds of commuters Photograph: Marika Allen Chalkiadis

This was taken at this year's Glastonbury festival, celebrating its 40th anniversary. The festival was attended by 180,000 people and was officially the hottest ever Photograph: Alastair Howie

Early this summer, the Champs-Elysées in Paris was transformed, for two magical days, from a bustling thoroughfare to a beautiful garden in celebration of the agricultural diversity of France Photograph: Jennifer Noble

Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowds: rush hour, Essaouira, Morocco
Photographer Tim Jones: Bottle neck in the alleys of Essaouira, Morocco. There might not be any cars around but there is still a rush hour.

Natalie Mayer, judge: This image has good style - I just wish the main man (almost to the middle of the frame) wasn't facing away. However, smiling man at the top right redeems things, drawing your eye up there and giving the picture some character and substance

Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowds: Kyoto
Photographer Steven Martin: Crowds in Arashiyama, Kyoto, during the red leaf viewing season in autumn.

Natalie Mayer, judge: Interesting graphical composition and light in this one. The image would be improved if the central people at the bottom of the image had been facing us - giving us slightly more substance and interest than just the shapes. The girl to the bottom left also disturbs the composition somewhat. Still, a nicely observed scene

Been there comp Nov 2010: Crowds: Ducks, Gamlebyen, Norway
Winning photograph by Marie Peyre: The resident population of ducks in the Old Town of Fredrikstad, Norway, is a popular local attraction. In winter the moat freezes over, and the ducks, no longer able to find food there, relocate to the quayside by the River Glomma, where they wait for handouts from visitors and locals alike. They make quite a sight - particularly against the white background of freshly fallen snow.

Natalie Mayer, judge: This is a nice simple image which made me smile. The picture would work even better with the top distractions cropped of. I'd like to see just enough to know where the road ends and the hedges start, but anymore is just distracting the eye from the fun part of the photograph
