Been there photo competition November 2008 November saw a flurry of winter-themed photos - so snuggle in with a mug of hot chocolate and browse a selection of our favourites Tweet Berit Watkins: 'I took this photo on my way to work early one morning. It was freezing cold and the ground was covered with frost.' Photograph: Berit Watkins/guardian.co.uk Lola Akinmade: "Just hours from the Arctic Circle in Luleå, Sweden, an old model car lies buried under inches of snow. Even priceless classics can't escape the dark, cold troughs of winter" Photograph: Lola Akinmade/guardian.co.uk Duncan Thomson: "A derelict sheepfold in a blizzard" Photograph: Duncan Thomson/guardian.co.uk Sophie Atkinson: "On a sledging trip with huskies on the Kungsleden (King's Trail) in northern Sweden, the huskies would get frosty whiskers and beards after running for a while." Photograph: Sophie Atkinson/guardian.co.uk Allen Gray: "View from Cesky Krumlov castle. Cesky Krumlov is a medieval town in southern Czech Republic." Photograph: Allen Gray/guardian.co.uk Matt Fletcher: "Taken in Niseko, Japan. Niseko was mentioned in your top 10 snowboard destinations - so hot right now" Photograph: Matt Fletcher/guardian.co.uk Martin Meteyard: "Night falls on the snow-covered city, as seen from Prague Castle" Photograph: Martin Meteyard/guardian.co.uk James Steward: "I took this photo on a freezing cold day last Christmas in the Jewish quarter of Krakow in Poland. I really like the symmetry and bleakness of the shot, and the way the tracks running off into the distance gives you a sense of the unknown and expectation. I think the photo captures very well just how cold it was that day with the frozen snow and icy fog in the distance." Photograph: James Steward/guardian.co.uk Peter Colman: "Winter moon rising over the London Eye" Photograph: Peter Colman/guardian.co.uk Andrew Kerr: "This photo was taken on the approach to Konigsberg cathedral in Kaliningrad. I'd arrived by train on a November morning to be greeted by a blizzard. I was glad to be able to capture this typical Russian winter scene." Photograph: Andrew Kerr/guardian.co.uk Lynne Woodward: "Ice fishing through a small hole drilled in the ice is very popular in the north of Sweden. At this competition hundreds of people, many in family groups, huddled down to see who could pull the biggest fish. You get the best view of the fish by lying flat on the ice and peering through the hole." Photograph: Lynne Woodward/guardian.co.uk Sean Hawkey: "A snowy walk in Shoreham-by-Sea" Photograph: Sean Hawkey/guardian.co.uk Martin Meteyard: "A winter evening in Prague" Photograph: Martin Meteyard/guardian.co.uk Jerome Lorieau: "In the snow storm, a woman is walking through Bruntsfield Links, Edinburgh" Photograph: Jerome Lorieau/guardian.co.uk Yvette Hunwick: "Ice hills on frozen Loch Garten, Invernesshire, Scotland" Photograph: Yvette Hunwick/guardian.co.uk Roz Stripe: "Taken on a recent visit to Birmingham - the first October snow for decades!" Photograph: Roz Stripe/guardian.co.uk Jennymay Logan: "This wintry but incongruous shot was taken at London Zoo this year" Photograph: Jennymay Logan/guardian.co.uk Jonathan Philippe: "Isfjorden, Svalbard, just before the beginning of the polar night" Photograph: Jonathan Philippe/guardian.co.uk Lynne Woodward: "Steam from the breath of husky dogs on a cold day on the lake at Jukkasjärvi in northern Sweden. From a distance the teams of dogs look like creatures with too many legs." Photograph: Lynne Woodward/guardian.co.uk The winning photo, by Steven Martin: "Snowmen at the Sapporo snow festival in Hokkaido, Japan." Guardian Travel assistant picture editor Karin Andreasson: I love this photo of the snowmen in Sapporo, it's just so funny and immediate. It may only show a fragment of the festival but it tells all we need and want to know - fun and snow in Japan. Photograph: Steven Martin/guardian.co.uk
