Take me there: Central Hotel & Café, Copenhagen
With just five indoor seats, the Central Café is Copenhagen's smallest coffee shop. And now it offers an equally cosy place to rest your head, with the opening of the city's smallest hotel: one beautifully furnished room above the café. Bringing new meaning to the word "boutique", the hotel will offer guests an intimate experience in Frederiksberg, the hippest neighbourhood in Copenhagen. Attention to detail is the key, with fresh flowers, fruit and wine in the room, an ultra-comfy bed and a good dash of Danish design flair. It costs £170 to stay here for a night, which includes breakfast at the fabulous Granola Café, a couple of doors along. Go to centralhotelogcafe.dk
It's a good time to try...almost-wild camping
There's something very romantic about the idea of wandering out into the wilderness with your tent strapped to your back, finding a beautiful spot and making camp for the night.
But the reality of wild camping – lugging around a heavy backpack, trying to get permission from a local landowner, no toilet facilities and no hot water – is another matter. Which is why the new selection of "almost-wild" camping sites created by Pitchup.com is such a great resource. The online camping guide has come up with a list of 56 UK locations which offer the feel of wild camping but with the added bonus of basic facilities for those who don't want to dig a latrine or get arrested for trespassing.
Bakesdown Farm in Cornwall, a tiny site with just four pitches, each of which comes with its own firepit, is typical of the places featured (bakesdownfarmcamping.co.uk). As is the stunning Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping in the Scottish Borders (ruberslaw.co.uk). With its secluded woodland pitches and tent-only policy, it's a far cry from the souped-up glampsites currently in vogue where the only truly wild thing is the prices.
