Underfloor heating, a logburner and a bathroom with White Company products add luxury, and dramatic waterside views can be enjoyed from the raised kingsize bed.

It’s peppered with owl details – on mugs, cushions and paintings. The village of Fortingall is home to an atmospheric hotel and restaurant (fortingall.com), and halfway up the glen is a walker-friendly tearoom serving plump scones and locally roasted coffee.
