Take me there: Abba the Museum, Stockholm
If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down… head over to Stockholm for the opening of Abba the Museum. Fans are expected to travel from all over the world to pay homage to the most successful Swedish band of all time when the museum opens at the new Swedish Music Hall of Fame on 7 May. It will tell the story of Abba's career – from their breakthrough Eurovision hit "Waterloo" in 1974 to their split in 1983 – via photographs, audio clips and snazzy jumpsuits. The highlight for many fans will be the chance to perform as the fifth member of the band alongside holograms of Benny, Björn, Frida and Agnetha.
It's a good time to... try Morris dancing
Some people would argue that there's never a good time to try Morris dancing, but what do they know? With its roots in Pagan rituals to welcome the arrival of spring, Britain's May Day festivities are alive and kicking. Hastings is planning to host its biggest-ever Jack-in-the-Green Festival over the bank holiday weekend (3-6 May, hastingsjack.co.uk) with three days of live music and ceilidhs, while Edinburgh is expecting to sell 12,000 tickets for its Celtic-inspired Beltane Fire Festival, which kisses goodbye to winter with a giant bonfire on Calton Hill (£10, 30 April, beltane.org).
In east London, kids can learn about folk traditions and make their own Jack in the Green at the Museum of Docklands (6 May, museumoflondon.org.uk/Docklands). Shoreditch will be giving festivities an urban twist with its own May Day Fete (5 May, wearetbc.com) promising cider, folk music, stalls selling foraged foods and "contemporary Morris dancing", though purists might wish to head down to Dorset for the annual dawn meet of the Wessex Morris Men at the Cerne Abbas chalk giant (nationaltrust.org.uk/cerne-giant) where the beards and the beer will definitely be flowing.
