Have tots, will travel

Tots to Travel made its name by hand-picking child-friendly accommodation in France and Italy that supplies everything a baby or toddler might possibly need on holiday, from nappies to babysitters on call. The company has recently added a UK range to its books, starting with 12 properties across Anglesey, Cheshire, Yorkshire and Shropshire, where they have a cluster of five houses in acres of woodland between the Shropshire hills and Wenlock Edge. Over the summer, prices start from £360 per week for a couple with a baby in Woodpecker Way, ranging up to Pendennis, which sleeps 14, from £1,730 per week.

Loch rock

Musos can combine moshing with a splash of monster-spotting at the annual Rock Ness music festival, held in Loch Ness between the 12-14 June. This year's creatures great and loud include The Wombats, the Super Furry Animals and DJ Yoda, plus the Prodigy, Flaming Lips, Dizee Rascal and grime maestros Crookers. Tickets from £45pp for one day, see rockness.co.uk.

Look and learn

Already wondering how to keep the kids away from the telly this summer? A choice of new museums should fill a couple days; these include the £26million Great North Museum, which will feature a large-scale interactive model of Hadrian's Wall, ancient Egyptian mummies and a lifesize T-rex dinosaur skeleton. It opens in May in Newcastle and will be free (twmuseums.org.uk).

In Liverpool, Bugworld Experience is due to open at Albert Dock in June and will encourage kids to touch, learn about and even (urgh) eat a variety of insects.
