Heathrow alert

Heathrow Airport is still short of 300 security officers despite increased fears of a terrorist attack. Airport operator, BAA, has been ordered to report to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling on what it will do to end the staffing crisis.

Hong Kong direct

British Airways has resumed non-stop services to Hong Kong, from last Tuesday. Since early April, the airline has been flying to the city via Bangkok following the Sars outbreak.

Algarve lite

No-frills airline MyTravelLite (0870 156 4564) will replace its route from Birmingham to Paris Beauvais with one to Faro, Portugal, on 14 June. Fares will start from £28 one way.

Veggie discount
Vegetarians qualify for a 10 per cent discount on holiday insurance with JourneyWise (0870 876 6969) - which believes that they are less likely to be taken ill.

UK visitor numbers
The number of visitors to the UK fell by 12.5 per cent in March this year compared with 2002, while forward bookings fell by 20 per cent year-on-year, says the British Incoming Tour Operators' Association.
