Smoker-friendly destinations

My friend is a medicinal pot smoker. Where can he go on holiday, somewhere warm and sunny, where cannabis is easily and safely available?

· It's never officially okay anywhere, but pot is readily available in Thailand, Vietnam, even Malaysia. All typical backpacker destinations have supply sources, and smoking is very common 'on the road'. For specifics (although I don't smoke!), please e-mail yo2anda@hotmail.com.

· Don't know about buying it over there, but Portugal has legalised all drugs and it's the most lovely place I have been to. The beaches are gorgeous, the people are friendly, and the way of life is relaxed.

· Nowhere is 100 per cent safe (though Netherlands and Switzerland are up there), but if you're looking for a chilled-out place to smoke, Cape Town can't be beat. Stuff there is cheap and plentiful. Backpackers would be a good place to start. A trip up the east coast towards the Transkvei would be great fun, too. Availability in Thailand was good, but the Asian attitude towards drugs takes paranoia to new levels. Asia in general isn't the most relaxing place to smoke, but Kho PangGhan is the party island in Thailand. Mexico is good fun, and stuff is widely available. Morocco would also be an obvious choice. If you're keen for adventure, travelling to Malawi to experience Malawi Cobs would be hard to beat. There's good quality stuff in California, but it's hard to get - Americans are extremely paranoid. One of the best places at the moment, however, must be Vancouver - amazing variety and easily available. Although it's not legal there, you can rest assured that the police have better things to do than arrest the casual smoker. Hope that helps.
