· Breton is spoken all over Brittany (including Vannes and surrounds), but not by everyone. For part of the 20th century, speaking Breton was often frowned upon by French speakers, but in the past 20 years it has enjoyed a tremendous renaissance, and a number of schools now teach all subjects in Breton.
You will also be able to find a number of Breton radio stations by scanning AM/FM channels, and you can hear songs in Breton by going to one of the many Fest-Noz (music and dance events) that are advertised.

· The Festival Interceltique is held at Lorient, August 1-10. It is a celebration of Celtic culture from around the world, so if Carol and family are in Brittany during this period, they should hear Breton spoken, and probably Welsh, too. I stayed between Lorient and Vannes some years ago and heard Breton spoken between farmers in markets, and on the little fish quay at Etel.
Further west in Quimper, the Keltia Musica shop is a good source of Breton CDs and books.
