Newquay has some of the biggest, sandiest beaches in Cornwall, making it perfect for family bucket and spade holidays. But there's a catch: the so-called Ayia Napa of Britain has become a favourite haunt of hen and stag parties where literally anything goes.
Most of the debauchery takes place long after the children are safely tucked up in bed. In one 50 yard stretch of high street on a Saturday night we saw two fights, two naked men tied to lampposts, and we were twice offered drugs.
But families should be warned - even on the beach you are not entirely safe from the 'hilarious' high-jinks of rutting stags and hungover hens. On a sunny Sunday afternoon one little girl who had gone to the shore line to search for shells got more than she bargained for when a naked surfer mooning at his chums on the beach came hurtling towards her on the crest of a wave. Not a pretty sight.
