Here at Guardian Travel we’re still trying to work out just what it is that makes “shacking up” on a plane so appealing – apart from the fact that air travel is, for the most part, incredibly boring. (OK, we admit it, that’s quite a good excuse).
Still, if it’s boring as a passenger, spare a thought for the flight attendants, who have to feed you nuts, quench your thirst with tiny bottles of gin and tonics, and occasionally wrestle a drunken stag. With that in mind, it comes as little surprise that more than a fifth of cabin crew have “indulged in sexual relations with a colleague during a flight”.
According to a poll of 718 British air stewards by Jetcost.co.uk, 21% have enjoyed a mid-flight afternoon delight with the “help” of a colleague. Meanwhile, a further 14% had had an in-flight sexual encounter with a passenger.
We feel this survey raises more questions than it answers: namely, if this is going on in planes, then what the hell is going on in your office …?
If this is starting to make you think that being a flight attendant might be a pretty cool job, then take a moment to think about this one. Netflix and Instagram have teamed up to look for a new employee who will travel the world, visiting the sets of popular Netflix shows and, well, Instagram them. Salary: $2k a week (and Netflix handles your travel arrangements). To apply tag three Instagram shots with #grammasters3 by Sunday 6 March.
Another cool travel opportunity is the Janapar grant. Launched this year by Tom Allen, who made a book and film of the same name about his three-and-a-half-year bicycle adventure, the grant seeks to fund one young person on their own bicycle-powered rite of passage. For more information and how to apply check out janapar-grant.org.uk and, if you want some inspiration, we recommend watching Tom’s film.

“What do you do, Kevin?”
“Oh, I just hang out with lions, it’s pretty chill.”
This is a fictional conversation, but one we imagine happens quite a lot when people meet Kevin Richardson aka the Lion Whisperer. Check him out on Instagram for more nail-biting shots of him hanging out with lions like they’re a flock of friendly sheep. He hit the news this week for a cuddly photoshoot he did to raise awareness of the wild beasts.
The Instagrammer we love this week is Mason Smith, who shoots the Oregon landscape. One of the most eye-catching, is this bird’s-eye-view drone video of the town Grants Pass. Anyone for Pac-Man?
