Have camera, will travel? Then Guardian Travel’s annual photography competition is for you. It’s an opportunity for you to capture the essence of your journeys around the world, and for us to showcase your work online and – at the end of the year – in an exhibition at Guardian HQ.

And the overall prize is pretty great too.

The winner of each month’s competition (who must be a UK resident) will see their shot mounted and displayed in the end-of-year exhibition for the public at the Guardian’s offices in London. Once the exhibition is finished digital printers Point 101 will send you a copy of your shot to place with pride on your own wall.

The overall winner (chosen from the 12 monthly winners) will go on an amazing Artisan Travel four-night trip to Sörbyn Lodge and the Aurora Safari Camp situated in the Lassbyn Råne River Valley near Luleå – this is Lappish glamping in aurora borealis territory, providing an unforgettable adventure. The host for this specialist holiday is Fredrik Broman, who has been a nature photographer for 21 years, splitting his time between Kenya and Sweden. Fredrik, the founder of the Aurora Safari Camp, will assist participants in photographing a wide variety of winter subjects. The four-day trip will take place in March 2016 (dates to be announced).

Each day has a specific focus, and will include different Arctic activities. The trip includes winter light photography workshops, a Sámi and reindeer experience, an image editing workshop, night photography course, ice fishing, snowshoeing, an action photography workshop and a husky safari.

There will be a different theme for each month and you will need to enter your shots via GuardianWitness. The Guardian travel team, and photographer Michael Ryan of Fotovue.com will judge the monthly entries and the overall winner. You won’t be able to enter months in advance but to give you a little time to prepare, here are all the themes for 2015:

  • January: wild
  • February: weather
  • March: colour
  • April: water
  • May: faces
  • June: geometry/geometric shapes
  • July: action
  • August: coast
  • September: solitude
  • October: architecture
  • November: celebration
  • December: food

To enter January’s competition you’ll need to head over to GuardianWitness via this link.

And don’t forget to read the terms and conditions.
