Did you know? Though its name sounds distinctly modern, the hamlet of Mile End dates back at least to the 13th century, when it appeared in local records as La Mile ende. The name is derived from the village's location, about a mile from the historic limits of the City of London at Aldgate, along the ancient road to Colchester.
