Come January, many of us think about changing jobs; few of us imagine that a new job might involve one long holiday in the sun.
But that is effectively what First Choice is offering one candidate. The tour operator is looking for a "slide-tester" to spend six months riding water slides and larking about in the pools at its SplashWorld resorts around the world.
In a job description that sounds like it was written by a child under the heading "What I'd like to do when I grow up", First Choice says: "The successful candidate will get to ride and rate the slides based on the 'biggest splash' and 'adrenaline factor' as part of the role, as well as share their experiences with First Choice holidaymakers via Twitter and Facebook."
But our favourite line in the job description is this: "No two days will be the same!" Perhaps you wear a different swimming costume every day.
Your pay for spending six months splashing about in the pools of Mallorca, Turkey, Egypt and other sunny destinations? £10,000, plus paid overseas travel expenses. At the end of the six-month contract you'll receive a seven-night holiday for two staying at one of the company's all-inclusive resorts … to relax by the pool after all that hard work.
First Choice plans to draw up a short list of five who will then compete in a "final challenge" at a SplashWorld resort. It's all starting to sound a bit like a bad reality TV show. Let's just hope the producers at ITV don't get wind of it – after the "ratings success" of Tom Daley's debut show at the weekend, they may well be on the look out for another water-based corker. Could Celebrity Slide Tester be this summer's Splash! ?
