Route notes

Aside from being a flat, well-surfaced trail, the route is dotted with artworks, including Angus Ross's dramatic Winged Seat – a bench framed by crisscrossed arcs of wood (above) – and three copper figures on long poles by Lucy Casson (right). The Ridgeway, the 87-mile ancient track and national trail, also crosses Princes Risborough.

Terrain and gradients

The entire route is offroad, well-surfaced and relatively flat.

How to get there/away

Princes Risborough has regular services into London Marylebone and connections north via Bicester for Birmingham. Haddenham and Thame Parkway station is two miles from Thame.

What to see

Aside from the art, the Chilterns countryside is the star. Despite being within easy each of London, the local area, between the Chilterns and the Vale of Aylesbury, is rich in wildlife. The start and end towns are attractive and prosperous communities for well-heeled London commuters.

Watering holes

Try the Three Horseshoes in Towersey. At the end, Thame's high street offers the Six Bells historic coaching inn (Lower High St, OX9 2AD).
