Kyoto in bloom: the cherry blossom season – in pictures

Ninnaji is the head temple of Kyoto's Omuro School of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, founded in 888 AD. The world heritage site in Japan's former imperial capital is famous for its locally cultivated, late blooming sakura trees, called omuro sakura.
