Been there July 2010: Cappadocia after a storm
I was caught by a storm at Cappadocia's highest point, Uchisar castle. I had to shelter in a small cave but the rainbow afterwards was well worth the effort Photograph: Sylwia Krason
Been there July 2010: Cricket ground in Sandwich, Kent
I called this summer before I even knew about this month's theme. This is the cricket ground in Sandwich, Kent Photograph: James Winkless
Been there July 2010: View near the Duomo in Florence
My new husband took this pic on our holiday which was also our honeymoon! Taken from the Campanille next to the Duomo in Florence. I think the thick walls provided the perfect frame for the great view Photograph: Fiona Docherty
Been there July 2010: Dancing at Glastonbury
Dancing at Glastonbury epitomises summer for me Photograph: Dawn Chaquico
Been there July 2010: Summer day in Fort William
This photo was taken in the north-west of Scotland in Fort William. We were there to climb Ben Nevis and afterwards, when camping by a loch, this scene was truly enough to relax our sore muscles Photograph: Tye Simms

Been there July 2010: Koh Samui, Thailand
This photo is of my close friends and I on a pier in Koh Samui (Thailand) at sunset, May 2010. The photo is really special to us all, as we had made the trip to attend our childhood friend's wedding to a local girl - braving the Bangkok redshirt riots and ash clouds to finally make it there. This photo from the night before the ceremony reminds all of us why we made the journey! Photograph: Maxim Lewis
Been there July 2010: English summer day at Audley End House, Essex
I think this photo conveys all that is best in an English summer day. Taken at Audley End House, Essex Photograph: Frank Tunstall

Been there July 2010: Swimming
My son nears the finishing line of a swimming race against his twin brother. The blues in this shot make me feel cool and refreshed on hot tropical summer afternoons here in Fiji where we are on a posting Photograph: Edie Purdie
Been there July 2010: Festival sunset
For me summer is all about festivals and listening to music against spectacular sunsets. It doesn't get better than that Photograph: Slawek Kozdras
Been there July 2010: Glade summer festival

Been there July 2010: Poppy field in Bewdley, Worcestershire
This photo was taken in Bewdley, Worcestershire. After I found out about the existence of this amazing poppy field, I drove up there to see this wonderful sight Photograph: Carmen Dragota
Been there July 2010: Red sky
This is a photo of the maddest sunset I have ever seen! Taken from my bedroom window in Southport, Merseyside Photograph: Graham Watkins
Been there July 2010: Summer bunting
Summer to me means bunting - from school fetes to little festivals, the cheery flags flapping in the wind make me want a cream tea and to just sit back and watch the world go by for a few hours. This photo was taken on a weekend getaway to Bristol, where we found a little food festival taking place at The Paintworks. It was the perfect summer's afternoon - kids running around, parents sipping cider and the smell of barbecued meat Photograph: Claire Ralphson-Cook
Been there July 2010: Summer flowers and French Alps

Been there July 2010: Seagull at lunch
John Petsis: 'Lunchtime at the wharfside fish and chip shop', taken in Penzance, Cornwall.

Natalie Mayer, judge: I love this, maybe because I'm from Jersey where this is a common scene. Either way, it's a fun, cynical interpretation of the theme summer. I like the expression on the seagull's face, as if he is being told off by a waitress!

Been there July 2010: Summer stroll, Patmos, Greece
Miltos Dikaros: Taken at the island of Patmos, Greece. It's sunset and there is a sense of carefree relaxation and friendship - life is meaningful and anything can happen, even during a stroll. Isn't this the essence of summer?

Natalie Mayer, judge: This is a cute scene, very nicely composed. I like the way the photographer has put the girls in the centre of the crossing of the power lines - it draws your eye nicely into the focus of the picture. If they had been anywhere else, the photo would have been too cluttered. I think this is a really good interpretation of a difficult scene.

Been there July 2010: Playing in the fountains on the Southbank, London
Winning photo by Chris Mole: Playing in the fountains on the Southbank, London.

Natalie Mayer, judge: This one is great, I really like it. So much movement and fun, you can almost hear the screams of the kids. I also like the choice of black and white, eliminating all the distractions and making a clean and very graphically pleasing image.
