Tourists looking for a night out with a difference will get the chance to experience one-off "hotel" stays in locations including the London Dungeon and Manchester United's Old Trafford football ground.

The unusual nights out are part of a competition being run by Laterooms.com, which will reward winners with stays in a selection of "one night only" venues.

The company ran a survey of almost 1,500 of its customers to find out the most popular "wishlist" hotel venues, and contacted the top destinations to set up free one-night packages for guests. Although the company weren't able to convince the proprietors of Buckingham Palace or 10 Downing Street to offer B&B for an evening, they did manage to bag room at other venues on the list, including the Blue Reef Aquarium in Hastings and Cornwall's Eden Project, and are working on others.

The London Dungeon package includes a night in Jack the Ripper's chamber and a private ride on Extremis: Drop ride to doom. At Old Trafford the room has been set up in a player's VIP box and guests will get a private stadium tour.
