The winner of Tourism Queensland's "Best Job in the World" competition, Ben Southall, has been getting a little flak recently, with various media sources deciding that he is a 'whingeing pom'. And he hasn't even started the job - his stint as island caretaker starts on July 1.
But what does he care? He's imminently off to a desert island, and is busily preparing. These days, one of the central pillars of any holiday preparation is loading up the iPod, something that Ben has been putting considerable thought into. And here are his ... wait for it ... desert island discs. Or should that be desert island digital audio-specific content? Nope, let's stick with desert island discs.
• Jack Johnson - Sitting, Waiting, Wishing
• Oasis - Champagne Supernova
• Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
• Underworld - Born Slippy
• Alpha Blondy - I wish you were here
• Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum
• Bedouin Soundclash - When The Night
• Foo Fighters - DOA
So there you go. Turns out dazzling music taste isn't a prerequisite for the best job in the world. You can't have it all, eh?
But what would you take? You're allowed three tracks. Ben got eight because he's a bit famous now - and that's the BBC format. But this is our format and you just get three, OK? You're on a desert island. It's an island with lots of palm trees, dancing coconuts and the like, and the ability to play three songs. What are they?
