Instead of sloshing down bog-standard rioja and sangria on your Spanish escape, head to the Macia Batle vineyard, which claims its use of predominantly indigenous Mallorcan grapes, selected to create its callat, prensal blanc and manto negro, make it unique to Mallorca.
Tastings at the vineyard are part of a three-day culinary weekend with Balearic Discovery (0034 971 875 395, balearicdiscovery.com), but wine-swilling isn't the only thing on the menu. Guests will tour the food markets of Palma, and under the expert guidance of Tyrone Power - an ex-Rolling Stones tour chef - learn to cook fish and meat, prepare marinades and pastes, and produce a full-blown dinner-party feast. Accommodation is in a restored town house in Sineu, a pretty rural town in central Mallorca.
The next workshop will be held May 8-11, with subsequent dates June 12-15, September 11-14 and October 16-19, for an introductory rate of £795 per person, including meals and three cookery workshops, but excluding flights.
