What are you working on right now?
I'm a personal trainer at the Barbican branch of Holmes Place in London. Christmas excesses inevitably lead to expanded waistlines and the result is an influx of clients who've made it their New Year's resolution to burn off some calories. It's my job to help them achieve those results while keeping them motivated and teaching them how to exercise properly.
Where would you rather be?
Boyle River in New Zealand's South Island.
What's so special about it?
There's a secret little stream that runs off the main river and the only way to get there is with a guide and a raft (boyle.org.nz). Once there, you can follow it down to a secluded thermal hot spot which is set in some of the lushest native bush on the island.
What would you do there?
Take a long, relaxing and well-earned dip. The stream's bed is made of smooth pebbles and if you dig into them with your hands, you get the pleasantly peculiar sensation of thermal water bubbling up through your fingers. It gradually mixes with the cold alpine water to create a wonderful and private mini thermal spa. Nature doesn't get much better!
Where would you stay?
About 30 minutes' drive from the stream is Hanmer Springs alpine village. Within the village, the Heritage Hotel (heritagehotels.co.nz) has great accommodation and easy access to some beautiful cafes. For the more outdoorsy guests, there are numerous picturesque walks, tennis courts and golf courses.
Who would you take with you?
As many of my friends as possible. It could get a little crowded as the stream's only knee deep and a metre wide but that might just add to the fun.
What's the one place you'd like to see before you die?
The Great Wall of China. At some point in my life, I'd like to run it. Well, some of it anyway.
