Mass following

A rare chance to witness one of the few surviving communist showpiece events arises on a tour of North Korea next July. The Mass Games is an extravagant celebration of statehood by 100,000 Koreans in the May Day stadium at the capital Pyongyang.

A 10-day Inside North Korea tour costing £2,005pp with Explore Worldwide (01252 760000, exploreworldwide.com) departing on July 22 incorporates a visit to the Mass Games.

Leap of faith

The world's first harbour bridge bungy jump opens in Auckland next month. Jumpers will leap 40m from a purpose-built pod installed out of sight of commuters, under the city's harbour bridge. It will be operated by AJ Hackett, which runs four sites in Queenstown, the capital of bungy jumping.
