You may not have taken your summer holiday yet but if you already have winter travel plans, you stand a better chance of getting the cheapest seats on no-frills airlines by booking flights as soon as they go on sale.

Low-cost airline Go put its winter schedule on sale on Friday, saying it had more than a million seats available at the lowest fares. 'The fares rise as the plane fills up so it is best to book in advance,' said a Go spokeswoman. 'If there is ever an opportunity for people to get in there and get these low fares, now is the chance.'

Return fares from Stansted to Lyon for skiing in the Alps start at £68 including taxes. Go has for the first time kept on flights to Palma, Mallorca, through the winter from Stansted, Bristol and East Midlands airports, with prices from £64 return.

Although EasyJet is buying Go for £374 million, the two airlines' programmes will remain separate until summer 2003, said an EasyJet spokes woman. EasyJet will be launching its own winter schedule in July.

Both airlines said customers should subscribe to their email service to be alerted to special offers and new schedules coming on sale as soon as possible. Details of how to do this can be found on www.go-fly.com and on www.easyjet.com.

Meanwhile, Buzz said it would be putting its winter flight programme on sale next month.
